Healing Through Sound
“Sound: an alchemist tool to sculpt reality.”
Marci Brennan, aka Marci Starr, is not a newbie when it comes to healing. Starting as a Licensed Massage Therapist in 1994, she has had experience in several settings, such as state-of-the-art spas, hospice, and diagnostic and treatment centers. Not only has Marci grown as a healer in different businesses, she has spent her life everywhere from Minnesota (where she was born) to Illinois, Georgia, Germany, Florida, and now, Maine. Initially settling in the mountains of Fryeburg, she has recently relocated to the Portland area. The journey of her life has taught Marci that pain is not only physically manifested, but is usually directly sourced from emotional and energetic trauma and stress. This realization caused her to spend the past 20 years honing her skills to provide healing through vibrations to each person’s energetic field.
Recently, I had the distinct pleasure of letting Marci work on me. Despite having no idea what was going to occur during the session, she gave off such a positive aura and was so welcoming that I couldn’t help but feel comforted in her presence. I came to her office the day after I had filed for divorce, so to say that my entire being was a little haywire is an understatement. Post-session? All I can say is wow. In fact, I’m not even sure that covers it. It is work I genuinely hope to continue to receive in the future. It felt like no stone was left unturned, which is a completely intended pun because crystals are one of the elements used in her work. I also experienced healing from tuning forks, a rattle, a crystal bowl, and her vocals.
Crystal bowls are likely the most familiar tool used, besides a rattle; but trust me, the rattle used in Marci’s sessions put the ones babies use to shame. A crystal bowl is most commonly made of quartz and can vary greatly in size, which provides different tones. Although she occasionally uses one in an individual session, Marci prefers to use sets for group healing. Tuning forks are a favorite for one-on-one work, with several sets to choose from including brain, angels, and planets. The forks are metal and shaped like a long, skinny “U” with a small stem at the base. Each one is tuned to a specific vibrational frequency, which can be both heard and felt when they are struck. The fork is then placed against the body, such as on the toes, sternum, or third eye. The cells in the body match the vibration, helping to calm them and remove a person from “fight or flight” mode. This allows for more productive thinking and positivity. Marci’s most favored set is the Tree of Life, or Kabbalah. It is the Judea tradition that works with the tree of life, which can actually overlay into the chakras. These particular forks seem to contain the most power, likely due to their ancient and sacred qualities.
One of the most unexpected tools in Marci’s arsenal is her voice. When she first began using it while working on me, I wasn’t sure that it was her I was hearing. By all means, using vocals does not equal “singing.” At least, not with words. Using her voice is a relatively new concept. Two years ago, Marci had what she refers to as an epiphany while playing crystal bowls: “I was so scared, it came out of nowhere. I had been channeling one of the Indians I was working with at the time. Now, at age 59, it has just morphed.”
I asked about the specifics of it and she replied that it is completely intuitive. There is no thought process involved, she just steps aside and lets the energies of her client’s guides use her as a vessel. At the beginning of each session, Marci welcomes any angels or beings of the universe to use her voice as a conduit for their energies. Whatever you say, you manifest, so the words being spoken at the beginning really set the tone and are powerful for the work that lies ahead. She feels that her vocals are divinely guided, as she asks for unseen energies of the highest good to work through the frequencies coming out of her mouth.
Individual healing can use anything to create intense shifts in the energetic field. These tools create new pathways in the body to allow change, both physically and mentally. Marci’s new-found passion lies with group healing, which is predominantly guided by crystal bowl sets and vocals. In this case, every person becomes an individual tuning fork. There is a collective consciousness within the room and the universe. As Marci begins to open her heart, it facilitates the opening of the other hearts within the group. This allows for a powerful healing because it comes from a more holographic dimension. She states there are several basic wounds, that our sufferings are archetypal and ancient. It’s easier to heal pain when you can share in it. Marci feels this is why she can help so many, because of the numerous traumas she has been through personally; nothing provides compassion like experience.
“The seal of truth is in simplicity.” This is the phrase printed on Marci’s business cards. She feels that everything is simple, such as her knowing her purpose in life. She said she only has one, to read and heal frequencies. Everything for sound healing has been brought to her, she has not sought it out. Her first crystal bowl set was a gift. This work allows her own frequency and vibration to be so high, that it does not bring her down when she is working with others who need help. She simply teaches them how to raise theirs. Having such a strong intuition has helped even when working with those who feel like they simply cannot go on in life. As I was sitting in her kitchen, Marci left me with this example and I found it so compelling that I wanted to leave it with you.
“Imagine two rooms next to each other, a door closed between them. The first room is dark, while the second is filled with light. When the door is cracked, the light will spill into the dark room, but the darkness does not permeate the room filled with light. All you need is one little flicker of a flame, someone vibrating a little higher than you to provide that light and hope, to remind you that everything will be okay.”
